Pastoral Note: Whatever you do, don't omit the sequence from today's Mass! You can find it in the Lectionary. The Stabat Mater is universally recognized as one of the most tender and vivid pieces of poetry in the Roman Rite. The translation given in Maurice Zundel's book, The Splendour of the Liturgy, is exquisite.

ENTRANCE ANTIPHON

GR
Standing beside the Cross of Jesus were his mother,
and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas,
and Mary Magdalene (Jn 19:25, 26).
V. Woman, behold thy son, said Jesus:
then to the disciple, Behold thy mother.

ACT OF PENITENCE

Brothers and sisters, let us acknowledge our sins,
that we may be ready to celebrate the sacred mysteries.

You offered prayers and supplications
with loud cries and tears (Heb 5:7).
Kyrie, eleison.

You were heard because of your reverence (Heb 5:7).
Christe, eleison.

You became the source of salvation
to all who obey you (Heb 5:9).
Kyrie, eleison.

May Almighty God have mercy on us,
and lead us, with our sins forgiven,
into eternal life.

COLLECT

O God, who willed
that the Mother of your Son
should stand beside him in compassion
at the hour of his exaltation upon the cross,
grant that your Church, having become her companion
in the Passion of Christ,
may be found worthy of sharing in his resurrection.
Who with you lives and reigns in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, forever and ever.

GENERAL INTERCESSIONS

For the Church in every place;
that, by calling to mind the sorrow of the Blessed Virgin Mary
upon hearing the prophecy of Simeon,
she may offer comfort to all who advance in this life
along a path of obscurity and suffering,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.

For the leaders of nations;
that, by remembering the sorrow of the Holy Family’s flight into Egypt,
they may be moved to care for refugees
and for all who are obliged to flee from war and persecution,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.

For parents anguishing over their children;
that, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary
and of Saint Joseph who were anguished
by the disappearance of Jesus for three days,
they may put their all their confidence in the Father,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.

For all who bear the cross of suffering;
that, like Jesus bearing His cross, they may encounter
the Mother of Sorrows on the way, and be sustained by her compassion,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.

For widows mourning the death of a beloved spouse;
that, by turning to Our Lady, the Virgin Widow of Saint Joseph,
they may be comforted in their solitude
and inspired to go forward with courage and trust in God,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.

For all priests;
that in the daily offering of the Holy Sacrifice,
they may discover the nearness of the Mother of Sorrows
and, like Saint John, take her into their homes,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.

For ourselves;
that, by remembering the sorrow of the Blessed Virgin Mary
at the entombment of her Son,
we may be strengthened in hope
and learn from her to wait in silence for the light of the resurrection,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.

COLLECT AT THE GENERAL INTERCESSIONS

May we be aided at your Mercy Seat,
Lord Jesus Christ,
now and at the hour of our death,
by the pleading of the Blessed Virgin Mary, your Mother,
whose most holy soul was pierced,
in the hour of your sufferings,
by a sword of sorrow.
Who live and reign forever and ever.

OFFERTORY ANTIPHON

GR
Be mindful, O Virgin Mother of God,
when you stand in the sight of the Lord,
to speak good things for us,
and to turn away his wrath from us (cf. Jer 18:20).

PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS

Receive to the praise of your name,
O merciful God,
the prayers and sacrificial offerings
that we set forth in veneration of the Blessed Virgin Mary
for, when she stood by the cross of Jesus,
you graciously gave her to us as a most loving Mother.
Through Christ our Lord.

PREFACE

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God,
through Christ our Lord.

For in the design of your providence,
you decreed that the Mother of your Son
should stand faithful beside his Cross,
and so fulfill the ancient prophecies,
while giving us a new example of life.

At the Cross the Blessed Virgin shines forth as the New Eve,
so that, as a woman incurred death,
so a woman should bestow life.

At the Cross, she fulfills the mystery of Mother Sion
by welcoming with motherly love
those once dispersed,
and now gathered by the death of Christ.

At the Cross, she stands, the exemplar of the Church as Bride,
and the Church in contemplating the fearless Virgin,
keeps whole and entire the faith she has placed in her Bridegroom,
undaunted by threats and unbroken by persecution.

And so, united to the choirs of angels,
we praise you, as with joy we sing:

COMMUNION ANTIPHON

MR
Rejoice in so far as you share the sufferings of Christ,
that you may also rejoice and be glad
when his glory is revealed (cf. 1 P 4:13).

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

Filled, Lord, with the sacraments of eternal redemption,
we humbly implore that,
as we remember the compassion of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
whatever is lacking in the Passion of Christ
may be completed in us for the sake of the Church.
Through Christ our Lord.

I wonder whether you know anywhere this translation can be found on-line.

Henry, I just posted it for you.
