"My confidence is placed in God who does not need our help for accomplishing his designs. Our single endeavor should be to give ourselves to the work and to be faithful to him, and not to spoil his work by our shortcomings" (from a letter of Isaac Jogues to a Jesuit friend in France, September 12, 1646, a month before he died).

ENTRANCE ANTIPHON

GR
These are they who are come out of great tribulation
and have washed their robes
and have made them white in the Blood the Lamb (Ap 7:14).
V. Praise the Lord, all you nations:
praise Him all you peoples (Ps 116:1).

MR
The blood of the holy martyrs
was poured out upon the earth for Christ;
therefore they have won rewards everlasting.

COLLECT

O God, who, by the work
of Saints John, Isaac, and their companions,
and by the outpouring of their blood,
willed to manifest the blessed hope of your eternal kingdom,
mercifully grant through their intercession,
that, in our own day,
the faith of Christians may strengthened.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, forever and ever.

GENERAL INTERCESSIONS

That, helped by the intercession of
Saints John, Isaac and their companions,
the Church in the United States and Canada
may rejoice today in the harvest of holiness
sown by the shedding of their blood for Christ,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.

That our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI,
may be comforted by the Holy Spirit,
and mightily protected from the hands of his enemies,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.

That the Church may not waver in her service
of the poor, the sick, and the uneducated
nor forsake immigrants in their spiritual and temporal need,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.

That Jesuit missionaries
and their lay collaborators
may find in the Holy Martyrs of North America
a compelling example of love for Jesus and of fortitude,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.

That the Native American peoples
of the northeastern United States and Canada
may set their hearts on the Kingdom of God
and on the imperishable riches
for which the martyred missionaries gave their lives,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.

That the example of the Martyrs
may inspire us with apostolic zeal
and with the spirit of abnegation,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.

COLLECT AT THE GENERAL INTERCESSIONS

O God, who sanctified the first–fruits of the faith
in the vast regions of North America
by the preaching and blood of your blessed martyrs,
John, Isaac, and their companions,
mercifully grant through their intercession
that the abundant harvest of Christians souls
may increase everywhere day by day.
Through Christ our Lord.

OFFERTORY ANTIPHON

GR
As gold in the furnace, the Lord proved them
and as a victim of a holocaust he received them (Wis 3:6).

PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS

Look graciously, Almighty God,
upon the offerings of your people
and, through the intercession of your blessed martyrs,
let us become a sacrifice pleasing to you
for the salvation of the whole world
Through Christ our Lord.

PREFACE

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God,
through Christ our Lord.

As we celebrate the feast of your martyrs
John de Brébeuf, Isaac Jogues and their companions;
we praise Christ, who kindles the fire of love
in the heart of his faithful servants,
so that they renounce the honours of this world
and by martyrdom take their place amid the citizens of heaven.

By their sufferings your Church is made holy and glorious
and placed with Christ at your right hand.
Her joy and radiance is the prayer of her martyrs,
persecuted in this world,
whom she presents to you
as the firstfruits of the world to come.

And so, through the heavens and the earth
all things adore you and sing a new song;
and we with all the angels give you glory
in this, their ever-joyful hymn of praise:

COMMUNION ANTIPHON

MR
Everyone who confesses me before men,
I will also confess before my Father who is in heaven,
says the Lord (Mt 10:32).

Or:

GR
Christ shall be magnified in my body,
whether it be by life or by death.
For to me, to live is Christ:
and to die is gain (Ph 1:20–21).

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

Nourished, O Lord,
with the bread of the strong,
in celebration of your blessed martyrs,
we humbly implore you,
that by cleaving faithfully to Christ,
we may serve in your Church
for the salvation of all.
Through Christ our Lord.
